Daniel Radcliffe: Don’t Compare the Harry Potter Series Cast to the Film Version

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the film adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy novels, has asked the media in a new interview with ScreenRant not to compare the cast of the upcoming Harry Potter series with him and the other actors from the film franchise. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter in the television adaptation, while Arabella Stanton has been cast as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron.
The British actor says: “When these kids were cast, there was this conversation online saying, ‘We need to protect these kids!’ If you believe that, one way to do it is to stop constantly asking us—me, Emma [Watson], and Rupert [Grint]—about them. I don’t want us to be some imagined ghost in these children’s lives. Let them do their jobs. It will be something new and different. I have no doubt that Dominic will be better than I was.”
Radcliffe previously told ABC that he had written a letter to McLaughlin: “I sent Dominic a letter, and he wrote me a very lovely note in return. I didn’t want to just be some bystander in these kids’ lives, so I wrote: ‘I hope you have a great time—an even better time than I did. I had a wonderful time, but I hope you enjoy it even more than I did.’”
John Lithgow, the Olivier Award–winning actor, will play Albus Dumbledore. Janet McTeer, an Academy Award nominee, will portray Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu, known for I May Destroy You, will take on the role of Severus Snape. Nick Frost, star of Shaun of the Dead, will play Rubeus Hagrid, and Bertie Carvel, a Tony and Olivier Award winner known for The Crown, will portray Cornelius Fudge.
The Harry Potter series, written by Francesca Gardiner, is set to premiere on HBO Max in 2027.
